Your timing is a bit off. Almost all fish eggs hatch in 2-3 days. The former if you temp is high in the tank. The eggs will turn white if they are unfertilized.

You better tell taht to some of my fish then. The last time I raised jewel cichlids the eggs took almost 5 days to hatch. I have a pair of nanochromis thats on day 4 w/ a batch of eggs.
I keep my tanks at 76 - 78 deg F. I think it really depends on the species. I've had mbuna eggs hatch in 2 days. The nanochromis eggs hatched yesterday afternoon sometime, on day 4.
