I need some tips on bettas,im going to get one soon.He is going to live in a 2.5 gallon, filtered tank! Oh! And i also need ALOT of names. :good:

Hey!

From what I learned here....You WILL need a heater as well! Bettas like the 78- 80 F range. I noticed the difference a few degrees could make. My boy had his fins clamped all the time, but when i got him the heater, he was pancing around like a pixie.

Make sure you do a fishless cycle for the tank, there are tons of forums out here that can help you with that.

As well as a good test kit, such as API (i think)

And some things he can stare at :p

You'll learn more as you visit here everyday! :)

When you get your new betta makesure you feed a varied diet, bloodoworms no more than 3 times a week some people feed these daily but i dont think you should feed these all the time, BioGold betta food are pellets that are good for bettas.
Keep the water in good quality, and when you do a water change makesure the water you put back is dechlorinated and makesure you meet your bettas needs, heater, filter (which you have ) but dont have it too strong some bettas dont like strong current.
Also try to create a good enviroment for your betta, they like live plants such as, java fern, amazon sword, java moss, wisteria or for any other plants just ask on here their just a few that i find good, plus bettas like to rest on them, caves, alot of people on here use some type of cave for the betta to hide in. hope this helped xX

Hello here are some tips with the others.

Decor -only silk or real plants as plastic can rip their fins. Any house etc make sure big enough for them to get in and out and also no sharp edges to entrances, etc. Have some taller decs for the betta to rest on as they are air breathers and most like to be lazy!

Food - bloodworm are good treats, peas are good to feed once a week to help with constipation, main staple should be betta pellets such as biogold.

Temperature - between 78-80F

Filter and tank - really will need to cycle before getting the fish, it is safer and shorter than a fish in cycle, no fish suffer and you wont have to do backbreaking labour of daily water changes to stop fish from dying. Here is beginners resource center with many links!

here is a link to find someone local for media donation to kick start your cycle. If it is a small filter compared to where you get mature media from you may be able to clone and "instant" cycle

Be prepared for your new betta to sulk for the first couple of days (you may get lucky) so dont worry too much about not eating, just keep trying as they will give in eventually.

As to names, let us see him and we can suggest things! Sometimes you will find one on the personality of the betta! :)

Lastly they are known jumpers, please have a lid for the tank!
