I know it probably depends on the specific type of angel. I am thinking of getting a pair, and want to make sure they wont get too big for my tank. I have a 35 gal (US), 3 feet long, 12 inches deep and 18 inches high. Think that would be ok? And then next question.... what is the best kind of decor for them? Lots of plants, or lots of swimming room?

Thanks for any and all comments.

Yes, you could get 3 angels for that tank. The general rule of thumb is that you need 10 gallons of water per angel to allow enough territory space and you need a tank that's 18" high to account for their height. You should be good :)

I find that my angels can be a bit shy at first, so maybe a wall of plants along the back and some other tall plants they can hide in, but also a good amount of open swimming space is definitely appreciated.

Go for a sand substrate if you can :) Not that it matters for the angels, but if you want cories to go in there too, they'll love you for it ;)

I have sand already, but the cory i have in there doesn't seem to dig much. The tank already has a few fish in there (see sig). Will they all mesh well?

Actually, I hadn't looked at that :/

Unfortunately, I would not do angels with rosy barbs or zebra danios - they can both be pretty nippy and might shred your angels fins. Instead, I would either return those 5 fish and get the angels or I would fill out the schools of both rosy barbs and zebra danios and get at least 6 of each. Cories should also be kept in groups of AT LEAST 3, preferrably 6 or more...

based on experience, not by reading, i have 8 YES 8 zebra danios so maybe that is why they stick the nipping ot them selves, but i would say that they are definatly compatible :)

When I bought the cories, I did get 3. But the one that is still alive was beating the other two up. I saw him on several occasions chasing and attacking them. I took it as new tank jitters and he was just being skittish, but a week later when I saw one dead and the other with the same mysterious missing side of his body, I just assumed he went insane and killed them. I could be wrong though.

In a tank that size Id only put in 2 at the most. Angels given the proper conditions will get to be the size of your hand. Also in a tank that size the danios may stress out the angels. Danios seem to be a little high strung for the more mellow angel. You may have a nipping problem with the barbs but like most things there are exceptions to the rule.

Angels can get about 6" long and 8" tall. (That's the biggest I've seen, a really old male with a big hump on his head at my LFS).

i am 100% that you are wrong cories will NEVER beat each other up enuff said

Yeah they never ever attack. They could have been breeding you know. They breed in a way where the female (Bigger than males and rounder) kinda goes up to a male and starts sucking (lets keep it at that ;) ) and the male shivers.

And you must get some mroe cories....or they will get lonely at least another one or two. :D

I've had some danios in my 29gallon with my breeding pair and before they were a pair they ate the danios, (danios was a cycle buster) I'd be more worried about the danios especailly because my angels were not very big at all.

I have 3 angels in a 3 foot tank, two have paired up and breed often, they both pick on the single male, (even when not breeding) so they are very territorial, I am going to take him to the lfs (the single male) , I actually like the look of him better, he is black with silver streaks, would rather keep him but the other two are a pair so guess thats life. :(
I have two albino cory in the tank also (I know I need more, I didn't know when I brought them, they are hard to find here so am waiting for lfs to get more) any my getting back to the cory, I have never found them to be aggresive in anyway, in fact the opposite and are the only fish my angels alow near their eggs....they are the happiest little fish I have seen and wouldnt harm a fish....well from my experience. :)
