evertime i hover the gravel i take the fish out. i was wondering if anyone keeps the fish in when they hover the gravel? or when they do a water change?

would this be a good idea? or cause stess

i leave the fish in.

vaccuuming does seem to cause some stress, but netting and removing them causes much more.

thanks

any more advice

I would say that taking the fish out causes more stress..!

My fish don't get that stressed why i syphon the water and hoover the sand, in fact some of them get that little bit nosey ;) ..

You could try to ensure that there are safe refuge areas in the tank, so that if a fish does get a little stressed it has somewhere to go that it feels a bit safer.

Squid...

If you do it with the fish in just be careful. I have on a number of occasions noticed a pygmy cory or an amano shrimp desparately trying to swim down the gravel vac tube before they get siphoned. Usually on days when I haven't taken enough care. I haven't killed anything so far but am now far more vigilant.

:good:

I never take my fish out, and I have the impression that they are actually quite happy me doing it, especially the Cories! They go all crazy, following the siphon to see if there are some nice leftovers stirred up for them!

Same  I always leave my fish in the tank when doing the cleaning . My fish just ignore the gravel cleaner and other assessories. While on the other hand my Cousin removes all his fish before doing the cleaning. But I suppose there is a risk in the fish getting damaged or hurt

I always leave the fish in when I clean it. The fish either come and have a look to see what's going on or just move to the other end of the tank.

I couldn't possibly remove my fish because it would take me all day to catch them, I wouldn't have time to do the tank maintenance!

My largest weather loach, Whiskers, is very curious when the syphon enters the tank and my danios are completely fearless! They seem to enjoy playing "chicken" with the syphon!
