I'm am starting a new tank and I have a consern. Can I use some hot glue to connect rocks together. Or is it posiones. Also will anying else effect the tank. :alien:

I can't say 100%, but using a normal glue within a tank environment would not be a good idea in my opinion. I'm pretty sure a lot/most of them have hazardous ingredients.

There are various specifically designed products for Aquaria that can do the job of keeping rocks together. I think ordinary silicone aquarium sealant can be used as one. There is also some kind of putty, which I think may be called Aqua Stick, which is often used in the Marine aquarium in some capacity to keep things together.

They aren't that expensive and it's better to be safe than sorry, even at the cost of a few quid/dollars.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a search - this has been discussed several times, I have even done tests to prove the safety of hot melt and superglue !

just use a silicone. no need for glue. also no need for an aquaruim silicone. all silicones are safe to use in a tank just by the very nature of the product and the way that it works. most suppliers wont put "safe for aquarium use" in case you use the product and your tank bursts, no other reason than this. when using silicone you must wait until the fumes have dissipated. meaning the reaction is complete and the silicone is now sealed and safe. (_usually about 2-3 days)

errr no they're not, lots of silicons have fungisides etc and would kill fish only silicons that state 100% silicon are safe for use with fish.

Emma :X

HEAR HEAR !!!! Its not the glue that causes damage, its either the solvent or additives... loads of silicon is sold for bathroom use, where mold grows... they put fungicides in it to prevent growth

I cant see any problem with the "normal" stuff which gives off acetic acid, as long as it fully cured before you add fish/plants it 'should' be ok, but are you just doing the "hapeth of tar" thing here ? certified aquarium safe doesnt cost the earth, and most people keep their aqauia for years, so the extra cost isnt a lot for years of enjoyment, is it ?

So is there a specific brand or kind of glue I can use. Also were and how how does it cost. Also how do I now for a dowt it's safe for my tank. :alien:
