Hosptalisation

I am considering setting up a quarantine/hospital tank - obviously to be used appropriately, but after reading so many posts about ill fish with so many different 'possible' illnesses and problems I'm interested to know how often people manage to cure the more obscure symptoms. I have got rid of white spot successfully but I recently had a platy that stopped eating and went very thin. I isolated it in a large glass vase with heating and aeration and treated it with parasite treatment, but it got worse and red patch appeared on its side with raised scales. In the end I felt so disturbed by its deterioration that I decided to euthanise it. I don't think I gave up on it too quickly but I'm fascinated to know how successful treatment at this level can be?

A quarantine tank may be useful if you have the patience to put new additions in it. I don't. I have a hospital tank and have only been able to save a couple of fish max. Fish go from appearing to be in distress to dead very quickly.

Thanks. I suppose the best result of having hospital tank is removing a sick fish from the tank before it's illness spreads to others.
