Ive decided to get a hospital / fry tank would it be ok to mix the 2 obviously not at the same time of course but use the tank to treat a sick fish and use it to hold fry. Does it need to have anything in it like substrate or just keep it bare with just a filter and a heater. I was going to keep it going with 2 mollies in it so it will stayed cycled how does this sound??

i dont think mixing them would be a good idea also when you move the mollies from tank to tank when you get a sick fish or fry you will stress them out keep the filter from the tank you are using as fry/hosp in your main tank thet will keep it cycled

im not keeping another filter inside my tank it will look stupid and it isnt worth while.i dont see why mixing fry and hospital is a problem as sick fish wont be in with fry and after treatment you put the carbon back in and do water changes but i will have to keep some fish in there to keep it cycled when there is nothing in it.

why wont you keep a second filter in your tank?
i didnt say not to put the mollies in the tank i said moving them about alot would stress and maybe kill them
and as for keeping it as a hosp/fry tank the likes of white spot can stay in the water for months how good would you feel when all you fry died?

With no fish in the water for a set amount of time white spot has no way of surviving so it wouldnt stay in the water. i wouldnt want a 2nd filter in my tank as both my tanks run on 2 filters anyway so i dont want to add any more.

white spot can live months with out fish in the tank and besides not having fish in the tank would uncycle the filter so you would be giving the poor mollies you plan to keep in the tank
