So i'm finally gonna indulge my boy guppies and get them some girls (enough so that their not constantly harrassed!)

I'll get a small tank to quarentine the females and then later (as its inevitable) use it as a breeding tank.

I want to use an HOB filter for the tank (probably a fluval) but what i want to ask is:

the newborns are so tiny when they are born i'm scared they'll get sucked into the filter holes at the bottom. Would it be ok for me to put an old stocking over the filter (where the water goes in)?

i was thinking the mesh like quality of the stocking would help safeguard against any of the little ones getting sucked into the filter, but is it safe to do this?

any replies or advice welcome
