Hi well after i've transfered my fish back into the main tank from this 35L I want to use to as a Hospital & Quarantine tank.

Would I need to keep fish in there to keep the bacteria alive?
If so what could I keep?

I wanted something different like a Betta or Dwarf Puffer put I need something that is transferable too a community for a few days and they don't suit that need. I thought Guppies but they will breed too much. Then again Harlequins could work as I don't plan on having them in the main tank.

Help :{.

you could just add the media to the filter on your main tank then pull it out and stick it into the filter on the QT anytime you need to.

there really isnt very many fish that can be moved to your community tank from a 35L, that wont breed too much.

much better to keep the tank empty and run a spare filter on the main tank. honestly, if you keep fish in your hospital tank, you are going to end up without a hospital tank.

Well I don't really want my stingray filter on my main tank, besides it is already over filtered a lot. It has a Fluval 104 (up to 100ls) and is 65L.

thats not overfilterd alot, its barly over filterd. just put the media in the fluval.

The problem with using it to house fish and then moving them if you need it as a Q-tank is that it won't be for just a few days. New fish generally need to be quarantined for at least 2 weeks and preferrably for 4 weeks to make sure they are safe.

move the media from the stingray into the fluval along with the fluval's media, when you need the tank, take the stingray media out and put it in the hospital tank.

I took the carbon zeolite out of the stingray and now it runs off of ceramic rings, same ones I use in my main tank so that's ok.

I'm going to quarantine for a week.
