These worms finally killed off my last female guppy. I finally got the medicine i ordered online today in the mail, but it was to late. I only watched two of my female guppies die. I think the ones that died before didn't show a strong sign of these worms and thats why I wasn't aware of them until to late.

I've been able to save 4 small guppies out of all my adults and fry i had. I feel as tho I'm starting all over from scratch. I will probably just wait till my small guppies mature and have their own babies and never buy from a local fish store again.

If I do happen to see a guppy I must have, at least i'll have the medicine to treat them before I add them to my tank. I only started my tank maybe 3 months ago, lost them all but the four I have now, but I wont let this discourage me. I hope to watch my 4 little ones grow and enjoy them for a long time to come. :)

Sorry, had them in my tank as well, i ending up striping it down, what med have you got.

Hey Wilder,
Yes you are the one who helped me figure out what the worms were and how to treat them. Thank you for that as well. :)
I've got Levamisole Hydrochloride (Soluble Pig Wormer)
I'm not sure how to use this stuff, any ideas?
Thanks

That's great you mamaged to get your hands on it, never used it so not sure i will try and find out for you.

Add a fair amount to a small container and give the fish 30 second- 1 minute dips depending on how well they handle it. A simpler solutiion would be mixing the meds in with food (Food+water+levamisole=possible cure)
I had these nematodes once too, luckily I only lost a few fish to them :)

Levamisol, Discomed {Aquatronics}(1 of 5) levamisol, levamisole, tramisol, levamisole hydrochloride, (imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole,2,3,5,6- tetrahydro-6-phenyl-,monohydrochloride), C11H12N2S.HCl 14769-73-4 Anthelmintic nematodes 2 mg/L for 24 hours ONCE Most effective against larval nematodes, swimbladder worms no increase in effectiveness with higher dose. LD50 for eels is 250 mg/. Single treatment kills ~ 50% of nematode load.

Thank you Wilder and Yes I was so glad to be able to find some.

Is that long enough? I had read somewhere 30 minutes.

Levamisol .

Thanks. I plan to put any new fish in a little one gallon take for a day until the move to my main tank...don't want to take any chances with getting these things again. I've only got 17 gm of the stuff, which cost me $13.00. This stuff isn't very cheap. I wonder how much 2 mg/l is? And would I need that much for just a 1 gallon tank?

I'm not sure about dips, I haven't done them. I added the stuff directly to my tank (I forgot the dosage, this happened almost 2 years ago) But looking back on it I can see that adding it to the food would have been a better choice :)

Not sure how to work that out, don't want to scare you but some one added the full packet on another site and lost all the fish
Any one good with maths on here.

Well I think after adding a pinch of this stuff in a 1 gallon tank and let the fish hang out for a day, It should kill the worms if they are there. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I don't plan to buy any more anytime soon. I want to get my 4 babies grown first. They are the purdiest yellow and blue!

I've asked a member for you as she good with maths, she will help you if she can, hope they make it, good luck.

ok 1 gal = 4 L, so since it is 2mg/L, you need 8mg, or .08 grams by this information. I have seen other directions posted on this site that says 800mg/10 US gal, which is 10 times the dose on the site wilder uses for info. (this would be .8 gram/gal) I guess that means that you don't need to worry about over dosing them. I should say that the site i found says that the med is useless if the pH is over 6.6, so what is your pH?

Oh okay so .08 grams. Thank you.

And about my pH level, i'm not sure. I have these stupid little strips that turn colors and is so hard to read.

I'm not using the little 1 gallon tank at the moment either. But I'll try to keep it up just in case I find a fish I want. I'll make sure to check the pH level the best I can before using the medicine. What is a good way to get your pH level down if I find its to high?
