Just a quick one i think,

I'm thinking of adding a couple of platys to the tropical tank in my signature, Probably a Pair. Would the 5 Guppies i have see another female livebearer and try to mate with it, even though it's a platy. I really don't want to add one female platy and for her to have the attention of 6 males (including the male platy).

In anycase it would be like a human and a dog, it would just be wrong!

You're thinking of adding 2 female platys? or 1 male and 1 female?

I have 1 female in a tank with 6 endlers (2m, 4f) and the males don't seem to bother her at all. In my experience, platys and swordtails will sometimes cross-breed, and endlers and guppies will -- but swords/platys don't seem to cross with guppies/endlers. I'm sure it might be a possibility but it seems unlikely at least (like I said) in my experience.

I'm thinking one male and one female. But my male Guppies have been deprived of females for so long, i don't want them to go crazy and kill the poor thing.

She will most likely be harassed by the guppies. The little buggers will go after anything that is female. I've noticed in my platys and swords they can be almost as bad. I'd get another female or two so she isn't killed from all the affection.

Yea she'll get bugged a little, but not too much if you have a few female guppies. And no, there would be no offspring from such a mateing.

I don't have any femal Guppies, only 5 males.

I've gone for a trio of Platy's in the end, one Male, two females, and so far they haven't been bugged or buggered that i have seen. They're a bit quiet at the moment, but I guess they're just settling in!
