I use the 1 tablespoon per 5 gallon amount of salt in my tank... Does anyone know of any plants (preferably floating) that I can add for fry to hide/live in? Hornwort seems to be a viable choice but I thought I would ask here. Also, will the Hornwort survive on the flourescent bulb light and some natural room light?

Thanks for the help.

I have fake plants at the bottom but want a place for coming fry to live.

Hornwort will tolerate quite low light levels. You don't say what kind of lamp you have, so it is difficult to comment really.

You are adding quite a lot of salt, presumably you have your reasons. If you'd have said a teaspoon to 5 gallons, I'd of said that will probably work with Hornwort, at the levels you are using, I simply don't know.

I am just using the light that came with the hood so I'm not sure. I'll stop adding salt at my water changes to lower the salt content and then try a small amount of hornwort to see what happens. I mainly just want the live plant when the fry are still very small... the first month or so and then if it dies so be it.

Just curious, why are you using salt in that quantity? If you are talking about fry, I'm thinking Mollies maybe, or what? There maybe another solution if you are trying to breed brackish types is why I ask.

All of my tanks are, of course, completely salt free.
