Well i have a 15 gallon hexagon tank and i would like to know if i can have a sorrority of females in it.
It will have sand as the substrate with natural (round, smooth edged) rocks and lot's of plants. The filteration will be very over filtered and the Heater will be 75 or 100 watt to keep the water 1 temp.

15 gallons is great for a group of girls. 6-8 would be fine in there.

Really, cool i'll see what colours my LFS have in next time i go so i can ask if they can hold onto them for me as my tank is already cycling.

Honeythorn - I don't get why you think 6-8 girl bettas are fine in a 15-gallon, but a single betta needs 5-gallon minimum. Doesn't make any sense.

I have all my females I'm not breeding at the time in a 15 gallon tank with several floating plants and ornaments. My Giant female rules the tank without beating the others up. I have several that would probable cripple some of the others but the big girl wont put up with their nonsense. Just keep an eye out for overly aggressive ones as they can kill another one in a relatively short period. Give them plenty of hiding places and a good stream of bubbles from an air stone. I find that with a far (not too strong) current makes it so by the time they get set to strike the water has pushed them out of reach.

GuppyGoddess, when you put in 2 bettas in a 5 gallon, the bio-load doesn't necessarily double. And when you put in a third, it doesn't exactly triple (or multiply by 3) from the original. It only raises, if that makes sense? So the bioload would be okay. I think Honeythorn just wants a minimum for a betta to be 5 gallons, too.

And also, that doesn't completely completely apply here either.

i guess its like a person being in a 2ft by 2ft by 6ft room theyde be very uncomfortable where as 6-8 of you in a 12ftx 12ft room would be comfortable (granted not for life but the comparison is totally different size wise)

When talking about a sorority the 5 gal per betta doesn't apply. In fact, it's best to overstock the tank a little. The more females the more spread out the aggression.

Ultimate Bettas has an amazing topic on sororities. You may want to take a look...
