i decided to try breed my bettas. i had been floating the female in a tubin the tank the male is in. iplaced a small piece of pollystyrene on thewater surface to. after half an hour returned to find he had started to build a nest. released the female. he is now chasing her and then returning to his nest. over and over to blow more bubbles. there is a pic of the pair on my other post kg bettas. they have been fed live food only and kept in tanks next to eachother. her vertical lines are definate and she ismuch more rounded than him. does everything sound hopeful? anything i need to watch out for?

came home today an the female is ripped to shreds. no eggs and she shill looks very full. but i'm worried to leave her with him incase she dies. he has made a nest and is just hanging under it. she is lying on the bottom and every so often when she catches his eye, he attaks her. any suggestions?

You should try another female with him, they dont always take the female (If you have another lol)... But im not a breeder so i could be wrong! Good Luck :good:

This happened with my first attempt. My female ended up with no tail. (pictures in journal page) I removed them both back to their own tanks and carried on conditioning the male and another female. After 3 days I tried again with my other female. He made no nest after 3 days but I still released her, then he started to build a nest. Next morning I caught them spawning and now I have lots of little fry :)

Just be careful with your female as he may kill her. If he is under the nest is there no chance they could have already spawned?

Good luck

i have taken her back out of the tank. definatley no eggs. she is still fat but i dont want to risk losing her anymoreb than i already have. will leave her until her fins grow back and try her with another male.
