Hey does anyone know of anything i can feed to my hong kong plecos apart from the algae in the tank and algae sinking pellots as they don't seem too keen on them.
The Hong Kong Pleco, or Hillstream Loach (this fish is called by all kinds of names; I like that one the best). feeds mainly on algae, and I hear they're partial to algae wafers. However, I've also heard of them eating sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, zucchini, and even flake foods. This link is a good place to start if you're looking for more info about them; if you want to learn more you can search for "Hillstream loach," one of their more commonly used names (since they are a loach, after all) and you'll find a lot more info.
One of the best ways to feed them, if you can, is to grow algae on an object like a rock and then put the rock once it is covered in algae into the tank- these fish prefer fresh algae the most, not all hillstream loaches take dried/prepared foods very willingly at first, but all will really appreiciate having a fresh algae source in the tank.
Hillstream loaches are sub-tropical fish rather than coldwater or tropical ones, so prefer temps into between those two ranges.
Many hillstream loaches die over time from lack of oxygen or from being kept in the wrong temps, so powerful filtration, high oxygen levels, plenty of good food and the right temp and habitat is the best way to help these great little fish live out their natural life expectancy .
