Hi,

my honey gurami is looking thin, hiding in the corner, off her food & seems to have a small piece of fin missing from her tail (a mouthful from the tip?).

I have isolated her & am feeding her seperately to ensure she gets enough food but can't see any other reason for her being ill. Had her for a couple of months now but she has just started to act this way.

Never seen her get bullied, just the usual quick chase the the other fish get but with no real aggresion involved.

Will be checking stats. soon so will post later.

Any ideas please?

Has she got thin through not eating, or is she still eating well, check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed, is the spine starting to bend.
Also check her poo what colour when she goes to the toilet.

Thanks Wilder,

She has been eating but I'm not sure how much, may not have been getting her full share.
Anus normal, spine not bent and poo was long, v-thin & white last time (so was the poo of the other h-gurami who is fine).

I'm about to check the stats. now so will be back in 15 mins.

Checked Stats.

Amonia is zero as is nitrite. Nitrate is 10 (tank well planted & are growing well).

She is looking rather sad at the moment, lying on the bottom, lost most of her colour and fins that were gold are pink (not quite Barbie or tarts pink). I can almost see through her body. Shes getting worse but has eaten flake & frozen bloodworm today (in the breeder trap as hospital tank in use with convict fry).

I have just found white fungus on one of my dwarf gurami, there is no signs on any other fish including the honey gurami that is poorly. As I can't treat with 2 meds at the same time (not sure how quick I can get wormer plus) should I treat the tank for fungus first, get wormer plus and use when fungus treatment is over. Unable to isolate either at the moment so can't treat away from main tank unless I get cheap tank for dwarf g. & treat main tank for internal parasites.

Will have to try various lfs to see if I can sorce wormer plus locally.

I would get that cheap tank for the fish with the fungus, don't want to be mixing meds with that wormer, and you need to get going fast on the wormer as internal parasites do alot of damage to the inside of the fish causing bacterial infections, good luck.

Thanks Wilder.

Haven't been able to sorce wormer plus locally so have ordered it via www, hope it arrives soon. In the meantime have treated the tank with fungus meds. (dwarf gurami looking none to well) and will either get the cheap tank or transfer platty fry into the cory tank giving me a 18x10x10 tank free for the H-Gurami and wormer meds when it arrives.

Surprised how quick symptoms appear, one day all apears well, the next fish getting v-thin or fungus obvious. In hindsight the h-gurami was less social but seemed ok but d-gurami was his normal (gay? he appears to court the female but then swims out of her way if she responds) self.

I wonder if they could be stressed due to a major clean of the snails from the gravel & introduction of a clown loach on Monday of this week.

Will treat the main tank with wormer soon as fungus treatment allows. Pity the meds aren't available everywhere along with the 10 or 12 in the Interpet Aquarium Treatment or King British range.

Thanks again for your help, the links provided a lot of info. as has this forum.

Fungus treatment added approx 16:00hrs 14/09/06. The patch on the D-gurami has trebled in size since this morning (almost double of what it was when meds. went in). I know the won't act imediatley but was wondering how long before I notice an improvement?

H-gurami is still feeding & looking a bit better but is still far from well. I'm putting way to much food in the breeder trap, letting her eat all she wants then removing what is left. She is slow to start eating so I leave the food in for approx. 1hr as she tends to eat when no one is watching. Also, she is looking less pink & more orange so I hope that this is a good sign.

What med are you using, turn temp down by two degrees.

It's Interpets 'Fungus & Finrot' meds. to treat the D-gurami who has a (large) white patch on his head and along the top of his back. Just appeared yesterday AM.

Hoping the Wormer Plus comes in the post today (ordered yesterday but some of the internet sellers are v-quick in posting) then I will TX the H-gurami to small tank & treat her as she shows no sign of fungus. Will then use wormer plus in main tank after fungus & finrot treatment has ran it's course. More as a 'just in case' treatment.

Cheers Wilder, your an asset to this forum.

Don't rate that med much if it dosnt do aything you will have to swap to myxazin and pimafix.

Honey gurami didn't make it. She died just before the post came with the wormer plus so don't know if it would have helped.

Instructions states that it CAN be used with other meds. so will put some in the main tank with the fungus treatment 'just in case' one or more of the other fish has worms.

A 'side effect' is that some snails are killed by the wormer plus so ammonia levels need to be watched. With a bit of luck I'll get rid of the snails once & for all.

Dwarf gurami is 'hanging in' so will be picking up pimafix & aquairium salt today. Will also get melafix as well.

Any idea how long the scales will take to regrow once he is on the mend?

Don't know how long it will take for the scales to regrow that depends on the fish, once they loose there scales though there open up to infection.
Good luck.
