I had 2 females and 1 male, a couple fo days ago I got another male and 2 more females. The new male is chasing the original male around, trying to mate with him. They're both ignoring the females. Could the females be pregnant? They don't really look it, I've had the original male about 6 months and I've never had fry. I'm starting to think he's shooting blanks. And the new male appears gay. Just my luck.

Thanks!! Could you answer something else? One of the females I got a couple of days looks rather pregnant (they're mollies btw), she's very wobbly......do female mollie's behaviour change when they're heavily pregnant or could she be sick? She's quite wobbly when she's swimming and she hides out a lot. However at feedng time, there's no stopping her and she's quite fierce! She's not scared to chase the rest off for some food.

She may be pregnant. Do you have a picture?

The other thing to check for if she is large is that she may be constipated. Microwave some frozen peas, cool them off, remove the shells, and smoosh them up a bit. Feed them to the fish and this should relieve any constipation.

While a fish may swim more awkwardly when very large due to pregnancy, she shouldn't be too off from normal swimming. Is the fish swimming upright properly? Swim bladder infection is something that may cause a fish to not stay upright properly, but the way you described it, she is just getting large and moving in a manner expected of a wider fish.
