I am hoping to get a betta in a small bowl in the corner of the kitchen!! (not too small about 2-3 gal).

Not sure about how to heat it and what about filtration how is it best to deal with that?? If I used water and gravel from my cycled tank would that help speed up the cycling process of the new tank??

I would prefer to put him in my big tank but have found out that angel fish beat up poor little bettas!!
I think a nice little tank would brighten up the corner of my kitchen I might even make it a planted tank. I love the look of bettas and fancy having a little guy all of my own.

What is everyones opinion of the best looing type of betta??

I'm not exactly sure where you live, however I am aware that most of you folks live in the U.K. so this would just be a example from here in Illinois. I know walmart here has the 2.5 gallon mini-bowl for aprox. 25.00 dollars which I'm not sure what that would be in the U.K., also the petsmart here has the same setup for 23.00 dollars. I think if you have an opportunity to obtain the setup it would be one of the best ways to go, but that's just my personal opinion. Hope you find what you need.

are you in the UK? if so I can give you some links for heaters and filters for small tanks

I know I just replied, but if you are able to come across a walmart I noticed today that they have hex. 5 gallon setup for around 28.00 dollars with a bio-wheel filter. I was going to buy a couple 2.5 mini-bowls myself but for the extra few bucks I can get double the space for my betta, so for me I'd rather spend the extra ffew bucks and try to find extra space.

Am from uk. after researching some more have decided will need a filter and a heater so will have to have a look round LFS for cheap but good ones dont want to spend a great amount as want to save most of my money for a great looking fish. wont skimp on what my fish will need but want it as cheap as poss

most 2.5/3 gallon tanks in the UK are around £8/10, not too expensive, heaters and filters can be costly, but are well worth is for your little fella, where i live, they sell a 3 gallon tank with heater and filter for just £25,i think a 25watt heater would work, and any filter that doesnt cause too much water movement, gravel from your old tank would help, and save money.the water doesnt matter so add fresh water.make sure the tank has a lid, as they do jump. well done you for researching about him, lots of poeple wont do and just plop him in with the angels the wonder why he dies???duh.a few silk plants would work as you could remove them for cleaning, live plants require a little more work.good luck and let us know how your getting on :good:

I have to admit I am guilty of putting bettas and angels together. I had a betta in my main tank and when I went to the LFS my hubby wanted some angel fish asked the guy in the shop and he said they would be fine together! HE LIED!!! the poor betta got stripped by the angel fish and when i put him in the hospital tank he died after two days from his injuries :rip: have learnt my lesson from that just a shame the little betta had to suffer for that lesson to be learnt. :stupid:

well at least your learnt from your lessons :) Now you know they aren't compatible. But great job properly caring for your soon-to-be betta :)

If you want some links for good places online to buy the filter/heater let me know, its much cheaper than at the LFS
