home medicine for fish

That's what I do too gaya, is just swirl it around in the garlic and then feed :)

I've mainly heard it for use with bettas since they don't have anyone else in the tank to provoke them to eat. Personally when I have a new fish that's iffy on eating, I just move him or her closer to another fish and jealousy kicks in and they eat right away

At least as far as bettas are concerned, you are right about that, Sorrell!

I don't have too many bettas, but they are kept with my corys, and I have to laugh when I feed them blackworms. One of them sits right in the middle of the pile of them and flares at the corys until he has eaten his fill, and even after that. (They ignore him, of course.) He looks like a guard dog!

The other one is in a deeper tank and he gobbles them up like crazy before the reach the bottom. :D

It's got to be jealousy. I've never seen anything like it before, but I must say that I've never had a problem with a betta- in my cory tanks- not wanting to eat.

To get back on topic... Garlic is fantastic for internal parasites. You can also feed it to your fish straight if they'll take it.As a test I've minced it and given it to the bettas and cichlids before and they ate it with no complaints. Of course, my fish will eat anything.

For dealing with any sort of bacteria or fungi, I use colloidal silver, which is an all natural remedy found in health food stores. I highly, highly recommend it for any and every thing.

Wuv, could you tell me more about this colloidal silver thing? I've never heard of it.
yea, me too. Is it natural?

About the tea tree oil mixture thing, so 1/4 tsp. 100% pure tea tree oil with 8 TBS. dechlorinated water is the same as a dose of melafix??

Edit- and salt is not good for tetras?? Uh oh...

Hi Fish Buddy :)

Right, That will give you a mixture equivalent to MelaFix. It will keep too, but just be sure to give it a good shake before you use it because it will tend to separate when it stands for awhile.

Well, I added pure tea tree oil with no adverse side effects. I just wanted to let everyone know that I can be done. In two days my prim. pictus, who had his wiskers covered in ich, is back no normal-not one spot.
It has now been a few weeks since I added the stuff and still no side-effects
We have sucessfully beat the system!

Now I'm wondering if anyone has herd of agumax as a cure. It is made from the seeds of grapefruit and is used as a fungacide for pigs, chickens, humans and a miltitude of other creatures.
I wonder if it will be safe for the aquarium? Humm.....
