This is not an instructional post.

Instead i want a DIY pointer. I own an Aqua One 980 tank. I love it because its pretty much self contained. It features an awesome trickle down filter system, whereby water is pumped up into the hood, passes through a long tube with holes in it. The water then trickles out of the tube onto a think white filter pad filled with carbon pallets, through a sponge and then through some bio filters and back into the tank.

To get to the point, the filter pad is starting to wear and i am noticing much more tiny fibers floating in the tank. The pads are fairly expensive and hard to find for y model tank. It used to be absolutely crystal clear. Is there something at home i could add above the filter pad that would catch the tiny little fibers?

I was thinking a sponge, or even a towel but they might just increase that amount of fibers in the tank.

Has anyone tried any alternatives. I have seen some really clever stuff on this site so was just wondering?

I have a DIY Sponge filter, and have been using it for 5 months now. And its still going strong. :) IMO, try the sponge.

maybe some white cloth.... not sure if that would be too fine. I would also buy some large sponges from the store and cut them to size. I'm not sure if filter floss would work....
