i saw THE niccest betta at my lfs the other... this is quite a rarity around here and i really want it, but...

i am installing a new 80 gal in about 4 weeks and i only have a small tank with 3 silver platy and a 2 month old black molly in there atm and i was wondering whether i could keep the betta in there with them. the tanks isnt overstocked at all and its really well filtered ( i pride myself on the cyrstal clear water :p) it was housed with some small fish at the lfs and wasnt bothering them.

it would only be until the new tank is up and running.

thanks

There's potential for fighting with the Platies and Mollies but it's not guaranteed to happen. If nothing else, get a bowl and stick him in there. They're not very expensive (maybe a $1 or so for a quarter gallon) and probably bigger than the container it's in now.

oh actually ive got a container that i thought wasn't big enough ( just under a gallon) so maybe that will be ok? i got a little filter for it and its got gravel in there too...

maybe i could use that.

just a note, i keep a betta with a molly, and they do well. but having that spare container handy isn't a bad idea.

spose just having him there as a temporary place to stay is better than the way they are stored and transported before we get a hold of them so he shouldn't be to un happy, and i'm not really aiming to show him off, just stop him from getting snapped up by someone else

p.s. no one buy the nice betta from swallow aquatics in gravesend coz i want it :p

If it's a medium or large sized container, and it's clean, the Betta can go in there no problem. They don't need filtered water, they breath air but it helps if they're in an container of 3 gallons or more.
