Hi All,

I have just added fish to my newly fishless cycled tank. All going well, water stats 0.0 for nitrite and ammonia each day. Fish put in are 6 harlequins and 6 bronze corys - all currently very small but eating well.

I am probably going to go away for about 5 days in 2 weeks, what is the best method to feed my fish whilst away. i know adult fish can go up to 2 weeks without food, but is that the same for my baby fish?

If an automatic feeder is the way to go, which one do you suggest for a fluval roma 90?

:thanks:

I am wondering the same as im going on holiday 2 weeks saturday!

Hi, I wouldn't risk not feeding if your fish are juveniles.

Automatic feeders is one option, but I have heard of them flooding the tank with food and also of not letting any food out, so I'm not sure on their reliability. I can't recommend one I'm afraid as I've never used one.

The best thing to do is to ask a friend or relative to feed the fish for you.

People who don't keep fish tend to think they need more food than they actually do, so if the person feeding them for you is in that category, its best to pre-measure the food yourself and leave it in bags or something similar. Tell your friend to add only one bag if food every day.

Its also an idea to hide the rest of your fish food, just in case they think you've not left enough, and take matters into their own hands.

I would steer clear of holiday blocks, I've heard many a bad story about those.

Hope that helps.

BTT

Do you have any plants in the tank at all? that can help provide some natural food (i.e. the biota dwelling on the plant/plant itself).

Feed them some high quality food (e.g. live bloodworm, and add live daphnia if you do have plants such as java moss) thats what we used to do back in the day before auto feeders!

I would advise against feed blocks - as they can really overload the filter without doing much for the fish either.

But provided they are healthy and well fed, they should do fine.
