I’m about to go on holiday for a week, is there anything I should bear in mind as I will be leaving the fish for that long? (they are getting fed once or twice during this time).

The lights are on a timer but I’m concerned that the tank may get too hot if the weather is warm. Should I leave the heather off do you think?

Thanks

No you shouldn't have too much of an issue, don't turn the heater off. As the heater will only come on if it gets below a certain temp. Also if you have a really cold night, the temp in the tank could plummet.

I would just say show the person how much to feed, dont just tell them a pinch. Also do a water change before you leave. I think that will be fine, oh and yeh leave your lights on a timer if you have live plants. If not just turn the lights off

Thanks for that.

I will do a water change and clean the filter this eve so should be all set for them.

The volunteer is learning the ropes later so I will show them how much food to put in – good point btw.

Hopefully they will be fine, I will still be thinking of them while I’m away though.

Enjoy your holiday, and try not too worry too much. I know I did when I went on holiday, but my tank was still cycling, which made me worry more than most lol

I'd measure out the food into a daily feed and hide the rest; even if you've shown your helper the right amount, n00bs often put in too much and you could end up with serious pollution issues :good:

Thanks to you both, hopefully everything will be ok.

Good idea measuring the food out. I will enjoy holiday and try not to worry.
:good:

+1

I keep a few old fish food tubs and put in a daily ammount in each, label them as whatever day it is too.

We're heading away tomorrow and I'll be doing this too.

Agree, I'd put daily food in food bags that you can seal up. I did this as I didn't trust my mother to feed my fish no matter how much I showed her. She would always say "But they are still looking at me as if they are starving... just a bit more!"

I'd do a water change the day before you go, should be find just try not to worry too much (although it's hard not to )

Have a good holiday :good:
