(talk about planning ahead) im going on holiday in december for 2 weeks.

I cant afford an auto fish feeder, i cant get a fish sitter, what shall i do when the time comes?

They are small tanks. Do you have a smart friend to drop them off to? I would do that a day or two before leaving on the trip.

2 weeks is a long time but your only choice may be to get the weekend feeder tablets. they are relitivly cheap but since you will be goen for 2 weeks buy the biggest ones and just put like 4-5 in there maybe more, this is not gaurenteed to last the full 2 weeks though. you could also just get the like i think 5 day feeders maybe is the biggest they come, and then get a buddy to come over a drop a few in in the middle of the vacation.

so you only have the 3.5 gal so far. i dn't know if WCMM will eat off of the bottom of the tank. you cold get a weekly feeder as it feeds 20 1" fish for 7-8 days. as you only have 4 fish that get like 1" i think the food will last until you get back. you may need to put something in your tank to make it in the area that they most commonly swim in.

the best solution is to drop them off into a buddies tank until you get back and have him feed them with his fish. if they stay near the middle and feed like neon/cardinal tetras do than they won't really take to the feeding block (IMO). let your buddy feed them in his tank or give him/her the tank and food to feed for the vacation as it is small and easy to transport.

emmm...... what are you doing with your bird?

perhaps whomever is fending for your bird could also feed the fish while they're at it?

Hi, I bought an automatic fish feeder from e-bay (new) last year. I didn't like the price of the other ones I saw but this one cost £14.49 incl p&p. It works very well. Might be worth having a look. :)

By december, i will have other fish to care for, not just WCMM's

Also, whenever i put daphnia in the tank, It dissapears after 3 seconds :D

I have no one else i know who will be abled to take care of fish. If i give them to an inexperienced person to keep them, i run the risk of finding dead / ill fish when i return!

The pet store will be taking care of that for a fee.

I'm sure by December you'll have found someone to take care of them, or at least saved money for an automatic fish feeder. Either way do you not live by any family, or do you have any friends in your area? Having someone pass by 3x a week for two weeks shouldn't be too much of a hassle to find.

Hi,

If you get a bigger tank at least 15 gallons and have lots of live plants in it, the fish will be fine without food for 2 weeks. The problem at the minute is the size of your current tanks. Would the pet shop house your fish while your away?

Where are you from? if you live near me i'll look after the fish and the budgie, a few more pets at my house (zoo) won't make much difference.

Emma :)

The other tank will be 11gals and will only host 1 live plant. I really appriciate your offer!

Im from Luton which is no where near you! haha.

The smaller tanks will not have anything (the daphnia should be fine for 2 weeks)

Here is what you can do:
1- Divide the fish food into baggies
2- Put the bags on top of the correct tanks (IE-flakes go to this tank, sticks to that tank)
3- Write a date on each of the bags, so the person feeding the fish will be limited in how much/often they feed.
4- Tell your designated feeder to feed judging by the date on the bag, and feed that bag to the tank it is on top of/next to

The only thing you require from the feeder is for them to know the date, and how to read numbers :)

I do this every time I go away and find it to be the best way to get your fish fed by an inexperienced person. The only trouble you may have is dealing with all the bags :p

hey, i dont think i have anyone who is prepared to come to my house and feed fish. is there another alternative?

Awww I was gonna say I was worried about leaving mine unfed for 4 days while I'm away but feel daft now. :*) :look: I won't trust anyone with my lot....and I really do have alot!
Hugs,
P.

Imagine feeding my lot! we are off on holiday for 15 days and are trusting to the baggies of food method with a hotline number to a mate who has fish but no car (so cant get to check everyday) and just crossing fingers, he will pop round and put in fresh mussels for the plecos every few days and wait till they are gone.
I was tempted to set up a webcam with a pc close by so I could see by login on at the hotel but then how traumatic would it be to see all my fish dying online should disaster strike and be 1500 miles away with noway of doing anything so I thought best not :grr:

so baggies + otline number and crossed fingers for my fishie crew
