my four foot tank has a hole bored in it for a sump, but im using an internal filter. the hole is too low for my liking to leave the water level at so im looking at how to cover it.

standard is a bit of glass silicon onto it (with aquarium silicon) but i dont have any glass. What I do have is perspex. 3mm perspex to be exact. What do you all think? I would probably place a bit on both sides of the hole but i just feel iffy. at the near top of the tank the water pressure would be lower than the bottom

if possible, im going to try and get 5mm perspex to act as a condensation tray and will no doubt be left with excess, if I can get this I would obviously use the 5mm than the 3mm but i would still like to ask about the 3mm just in case this is the thickest the B&Q sells near me.

just how big is the hole?? i may be wrong but a trip to your local glass merchants, may solve your problem, and at not that much cost. and i bet its cheaper than B&Q sell perspex.

I wouldn't use perspex, it requires a different bonding material to glass. As suggested, ger a small piece of glass cut, the same thickness as the tank glass, and silicone it over the hole.

cheers. the hole is one inch diameter but the bottom of the hole is 3 inch from the top. way too low a water level for me preference. will phone around tomorrow see if I can get a decent price. though if I mind right there is only one glass merchant in dundee now.

lol they should have plenty of off cuts then!
lmk if the price is too high i may be able to help!

the aquarium silicone should bond ok to perspex, i`ve used various form of silicone to bond perspex before with no issues,

so an off cut from the perspex your using for a con tray should be fine

ok there is one in Dundee, another in the very nearby Monifieth, but both are closed, will need to give them a phone on monday.
