Hi

I've got a lined combtooth blenny who has been living in my Orca nano tank for a couple of weeks and he seems to be happy enough, despite a power failure and the associated poor water. (does this happen in marine tanks with live rock) We tested the water the following couple of days and everything was fine. There's loads of live rock, a clown, a couple of feeder shrimps that were meant to be food for a puffer(different tank), a pair of pom pom crabs, a neon goby, a citron clown goby, half a dozen soft corals and snails of course. My question is could the power outage have caused any problems which led to a hole appearing in his gill cover? It looks like he's been poked with a pin - it's a clean looking hole with no sign of rot or infection. He's feeding fine, making sure the neon doesn't get into his cave and generally behaving normally. Or could he have had a run in with one of the other inhabitants. Everyone else in the tank is fine and going about their normal business.

This is our first marine tank but we've got the bug now and are in the process of setting up a 200l one, so we'll be back looking for advice. You have been warned! -_-

Cheers

If he's still feeding well, there's probably nothing to worry about. Are you sure it isn't just an illusion of some kind, like a tiny bubble clinging to his skin?

Thanks for the suggestion but no it's definitely a hole and now he's taken to scratching his chin on the sand. That's the easiest way to describe it. He's still eating fine and other than every now and then rubbing his chin he's just the same as always. I asked at the LFS, good guys by the way, and they said don't worry too but can't help it. Would diet matter? We'll have to see what progresses.

Thanks again :good:
