Hmmmmm M Or F And Tail Type

Very rare......that's only the second one i've seen. Where'd you get him Dusky
isnt that the one thats called the leaf tail? its a new tail created by intense breeding of the feathertails and then crossed into a halfmoon pk to shorten the leaf effect, the light issue ive heard is a fact of how it is produced, increasing the light to T5's and for a period longer than usual helps to create the extra thickness of the feathers a good version of this would ideally have the leaf extensions crossing at the ends.
thats one lovely fish to own, im not to happy and very  with envy dusky

I was just kidding !

Sorry but I thought the thread was started as a joke since so many people post pics asking if it is M/F. Jokes on me !

Want to see better pics of it ! :good:

I will try in daylight .....he poses very well though,, good as gold and sits perfectly still for me :)

Ahhhh so that's where the shorter tail comes from. So potentially I could spawn my new FT boy and then later use our male HMPK.....is that what you mean Daz.....what are the chances of being able to get the Leaf Tail eventually?

There's a similar Ft like this on Aquabid at present. i think its been line bred with Ft siblings to produce the extra finnage :good:

I thought it had something to do with crossbreeding FT's but didn't realise you had to put the HMPK in.

the light issue is the main thing, hold on my breeder in singapore says that he has more info on this tail, im just chatting on IM with him, wont be long

We've got T5 lighting so no problem with that :good:

Mines been fine with the torch on it though. Do i really need to go to the expense of a T5 light????????????????

some say with leaving the curtain open and a touch of moonlight can affect the colour, is this true?
T5 probably just gives thickness, etc.

How romantic,,,,,,,,moonlight on my leaf tail   If only he had a girlfriend sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. will save me a hec of alot on batteries too

OMG it gets worse, i've just been told that even with using the hmpk this hmpk must have a history of ct in there atleast 5 or less generations before so that this tail can hold the right genetics, if you use just the feathertail and the hmpk without the ct gene you only get shorttail rosetail or feathertail, its the ct genotype that is the important bit as well as the lighting, if not enough light is used the fish will only look like an ft, this extra light must be put into place as soon as the fry are free swimming and they should be fed live foods only for atleast 4months to get the really good effect, its a really hard tail to produce and it only comes out like a throwback would but this breeder has been crossing the leaftails and apparently some of his fish are in circulation already, hence why dusky has one.

oh he says that the crossing of the ext's are to do with the ct gene as well, DUH how dumb he must think i am, i knew that bit atleast
