Well for my birthday i was given a 125 litre rio, and today brought some stuff to set it up...
got gravel and a peice of bog wood etc then my mum saw this cool rock with holes drilled in (you know the type i mean, the ones that are different coloured layers)

well i didnt think at the time that its a sediemtry rock most likely to contain Ca untill after i got home and added it to the tank...

basically im sitting here watching two streams of fine bubbles coming off

so how baddly will it affect my 7.6 ph?

dont worry there isnt any fish, this is just a *wet* run to check if everythings working..

i tested it when i first noticed it with tetra drip test, came out fine on the high ph indicator, then again after 1h still no change..ill test it agian in a bit later on prob,

my question is can i wait it out(wait for the reactents to run out)? or will it always effect the the water?

... wow thats bad grammar

p.s. its for a comunity tank so i cant go lake etc

EDIT: oo the bubbles have mostly stopped

I've seen these rocks in my LFS as well, I guess they are safe to use since they are sold to be used in aquariums. The bubbles comming out is probably just air while the rock is absorbing water

maybe, but i did do an acid test with vingar and it showed bubbles which in thiory says Calcium is present which raises ph ah well the bubbles have stoped so we shall see.

it is unlikley to upset your tank much, but if you are unsure. soak it in tank water doing a ph test before and after its bin in a while! err thats test the water not the rock lol
