Ok, here goes :D Get youre glasses out caus this is gonna be a BIG post! lol
The Setup
1 X 2 year old Juwel 29 UK Gallon Tank with internal filter Has a pump and airstones, set up with a large piece of Bogwood, plenty of java moss, plants and pot caves and pea gravel
1 X New (Needs to be set up) 29 UK Gallon tank, with tetratec ap80 air filter, has two air stones with pump, with pea gravel a large root ornament, plastic plants and three pieces of bogwood
1 X 5 UK gallon hospital tank with internal filter and pea gravel.

My PH is 7.2

The Plan
I am really keen on breeding angel fish. i have kept them successfully for years now and want to go one step further. I plan to seed my new tank with the old media. I will be buying in Angels for my purpose. I am thinking of using the hospital tank for eggs, artificially raising them.

The Questions
1. How big do angels need to be to breed?
2. What should i look out for when buying in angels?
3. Should i buy big angel fish, or small?
4. Are my tank set-ups missing anything vital?
5. Are there any 'favourable' strains i should look out for which people and shops like?
6. How many angels should i buy?
7. Is it possible to sex small angels?
8. Any good foods for conditioning them?
9. Should i set up an angel only tank in the new one or keep angels in both tanks?
10. Is there anything you would change about my plan?

Thanks SO Much for the help, in advance :D

1. I believe angels will become sexually active once they reach the size of a quarter.
2. Look out for a healthy fish. You probably won't find a pair at the pet store.
3. Buy 6+ small Angels and wait for two of them to pair. With 5 or 6+ you are guaranteed at least one pair.
4. Doesn't seem like it. Make sure you have a lot of vertical surfaces like breeding cones and slate. Sword plants work good too.
5. I am not sure, but the closer to wild (F1) you get, the stronger the fish and fry are going to be. This may be favored by aquatic hobbyist and knowledgeable LFS. I know at my store, people come in to buy the koi strain a lot. I prefer the natural silver look.
6. See 3.
7. The only way to sex angels 100% is to see them breed. Sometimes you can tell adult males apart from females. Check their breeding tubes too.
8. Feed angels a variety of foods (frozen, dried and if possible, live) 2-3 times daily.
9. Not sure what you are trying to say... I would watch out for fish that may eat the eggs. Even though the parents defend them, fish can be sneaky :sly: . Stay away from Plecos and faster moving fish. A school of Corydora would be nice.

I would only use a sponge filter with low current for the fry tank. The free swimming fry are very weak when they hatch and may get sucked into the filter. The current may also wear them out. I might also throw some mesh around the intakes of your other filters.
