Hey y'all! I've just decided to try my hand at keeping a tropical aquarium. I've never kept a tank before (except for small betta/goldfish bowls as a kid, like all kids eventually do) so I figured all you kind folks could help me with the questions I'm bound to have! I'm a college student on a budget so I'm not able to get all the fancy bells and whistles that some of you guys might have with your tanks, but I'm still determined to keep a great healthy low-maintenance tank!
Good morning and welcome to the forum! I can understand having to do this on a budget. If you want a nice, healthy aquarium, there are a few things you are going to need. No matter how you decide to cycle your filter, you will need a test kit. Get a good liquid test kit. It will pay for it's self over time. Make sure you read about cycling in the beginners resourse center. We try to recommend doing a fishless cycle. This method is best because you will not be causing any harm to the fish you plan on keeping. Good luck and keep us posted!
