The general rule for snails is they smell awful when they are dead. If they do smell, they are dead.
If they don't smell, it doesn't necessarily mean they are healthy. What I usually do is float a container of tank water in the tank and watch to see if they move. Quite often, they move so much they climb out of the container.

I don't want to smell them so I will see if they move.

Thanks!

They like to hide in the substrate, They like to attach to the glass. They will eat prepared foods if they cannot find other snails. Here are some feasting on Hikari Algae wafers.

I started with 10 added 5 and you can see what I ended up with in just one tank. I usually bring 2 bags of 10 assassins to my monthly club meeting to put in the regular meeting auction. Over the years I have sold 100s. You will never know how many you have unless you "rake" through the substrate to find many of them.

You'd know when you opened the bag if they were dead

Sit and watch them, they don't stay perfectly still for very long, like some other snails will

They eat anything you offer... And yes, sometimes it seems as if they're gone but they're just hiding in the gravel or sand.
