Hello

My tank has been cycling for just over 6 weeks

The water stats are-

Nitrite 2 ppm
ammonia 0
nitrate 5

They have been like this for 2 weeks. How long does the nitrite spike last ? as i will be going away for 4 days from the 19 feb.

Someone can feed the fish but will not do water changes.

Thanks Will

Those nitrite readings are very high. If you are cycling with fish (not recommended by me ) you really need to keep up 20% water changes every other day until you get 0 readings for nitrite and ammonia. If you leave things for 4 days will the fish be OK? Probably not to be honest. Factors like what fish youre cycling with, how healthy they were in the beginning and how badly theyve been damaged by the cycling process so far will decide if they survive or not. The best thing you could do is get hold of some sponge, gravel and ceramic filter media from an established tank to speed your cycle up.

Thanks for the reply. :good:

I don't know anyone with a tank that i can get mature media, i've also looked on the pinned list but noone near me.

I do 25% water changes every other day and will do so untill the tank has cycled.

Thanks again Will

Ask at your LFS; they'll probably let you have some gravel.
