i took back some fish today with a water sample and the lady said that i have high amonia....what can i do about this

hey i jsut read your post. can you give a little info on your set up what size tank what kind of fish, plants, gravel or sand on the bottom hwat kind of pumps or filters. if you have a container that can hold them ammo chips work wonderfully in your filter if not how often do you change your water and clean the gravel? just trying to get some basic info to see if i can help at all. my good friend owns the local fish store and i can get you some info from him if you like but definitely need some basic stuff
PETE :) :)

For starters, do a 15% water change and lite gravel cleaning the next few days, until the levels go down.

The next questions...

What size is your tank?

What type of filter?

What fish do you have?

How often do you do gravel cleanings and water changes?

Has the tank been cycled? If so, how long has it been running after the cycle?

High ammonia could be caused by several things...too much uneaten food, insufficient filtration, overstocked tank, dead fish, or improper tank maintenance.

You could also get this stuff called Nitra-Zorb. It's like a carbon bag that takes away ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate from the tank....

I think it's best to figure out why you have high ammonia. In the long run, it would be more expensive buying chemicals trying to reduce the ammonia. What happens when you run out?

As I mentioned, high ammonia could be caused by several things...too much uneaten food, insufficient filtration, overstocked tank, dead fish, or improper tank maintenance.
