Well like so many people I have been reading this forum for a while now and thought it was about time to sign up and actively take part in this fountain of knowledge
I have had my Juwel Rio 240 aquarium for 5 years or so now, it is a planted community aquarium with a DIY pressurised CO2 system, but due to total laziness on my part
I had neglected the tank over the past 18 months and the dreaded black beard algae had taken a firm hold so I have just stripped the tank and cleaned it out to remove every trace of the stuff.
I threw away the the old gravel substrate and have used an inch of fluorite covered in 2 inches of aquarium sand as my new substrate but I made sure I kept my external filer running in the quarantine tank where the fish were so I didn't have to cycle the tank from fresh. I've replanted with new plants and re-introduced the fish and I've got to say they seem to be loving the sand especially the Cory's and the plec, but I think he may be getting a bit to large for my planted aquarium or doesn't like my decor as he is doing his best to re-design the layout by himself so he may have to go
