Hi, Just bought a 35 litre / 9 gallon tank , it is an Orca brand all in one type aquarium.

Bought some fish to put in it, 6 Neons and a Gourami Kiss as well as a few ornaments.

Will get a few more fish once the water stabilises a bit.

:hi:

You're going to need a larger tank to keep the kissing gourami long-term as they grow fairly large. Too large for a 9g.

Welcome.... Quick query...
once the water stabilises a bit.
Did you cycle your filter before adding fish? Have you heard of the nitrogen cycle in connection with aquarium?

No, the pet store just gave me some powder which you put in and said it should be fine.

Most filter start products don't work and leave you going through a normal cycle which will damage/kill your fish. Look in the newbe section for info about cycling your tank. You may want to consider returning your fish, doing a fishless cycle and then re-stocking once it's cycled.

Yep they certainly lied..... most do....
Get cycling, you've got alot of work coming up!
GTG but make sure you purchase some seachem prime (see my sig for link) as a dechlor, this will make your fish in cycle alot easier.
EDIT: Or as Idle suggests return the fish, best option probably but i was way too stubborn when i got my first tank.
Any queries don't hesitate to PM!
Good luck :good:

Ok, as it turns out I actually have a 14 gallon tank /54.6 litres, must have bought the bigger one and not realised

I could be wrong as I have been trying to convert the dimensions to gallons, the dimensions of the tank is.

35cm x 40cm x 39cm

And the calculation used was 35x40x39= 54600 /1000 so I think i am correct.

Dan

Yep, that would be 14g. Still too small for a kissing gourami, though. They can reach a max size of 30cm!

Do you have test kits to measure PH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate? If not, you'll need to get some ASAP so that you know what your stats are.
