Hi! This is a great site, thanks for being here.

I just set up my new 37 gallon high tank. It's been over 20 years since I had a fish tank. I've been reading a lot of articles on the internet and I think I read something about putting your heater next to your filter. I've always put it on the opposite end of the tank. Where do you put it?

Hi and welcome to TFF, brezz!

In both the tanks that have a heater, they are next to the filters. In a small tank like mine, I don't think it really matters. Since your tank is taller than it is wide (if I'm correct) I don't think it matters where you put your filter.

Hello and :hi: to the forum. My heaters are center back and the filter is in the corners. Just lays out that way - never thought about needs to be that way... :D

hi and welcome :D

sometime its said to put the heater near the filter because it supposed to help move the heat better around the tank from the flow of the heater.

but like every ones already said it doest really make a difference!!

:hi: to the forum.

The heater is best placed near the filter, the source of most of the circulation in the tank. If placed next to the tank, all parts should be the same temperature, and you have less chances of hurting your fry if things go bad (which is also why people invest in 2 heaters with low wattage :D).

i normally put mine IN the tank :)

Mine is the opposite end to the filter (in a 4ft tank) and the other evening, while triming plants i noticed the temp difference from one end to the other... i think it makes more sence to have it where the flow is highest to keep the temp more even.

Hi brezz :)

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

You're right about the heater placement. I was always told to put it toward one end of the tank and put the filter on the other. These days things are different. It does seem to make sense though. :D
