Hi everyone,

I'm a newie to this site, although not a newbie to tropical fish keeping. I have had them since I was a little girl, obviously not the same ones!

I have a 2ft tank with:-

2 plec
5 glolight tetras
4 neon tetras
3 silver mollies( 2f, 1m)
5 guppies (m)
4 guppies (f)

We've just bought a 4ft tank and external filter(never used one of these before). It's second hand and has some bits missing, so gotta wait for them to come into the shop on friday. It's soo long away, I can't wait that long!

Here's a pic of my tank:-

Here's a pic of what I think is a pregnant molly:-

Could someone confirm this, please? Which leads me onto my advice required bit. If she is pregnant, how long do you think before she drops? I've been sitting watching her all night. We have a breeding tank, but haven't had any luck with our guppy babies surviving in that, so now we just leave the females in the tank with the rest of the fish. I'm not sure if it is worth putting the molly into the breeding tank or just leaving her where she is?

Also, our male molly has white spot. We treated the tank last week, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Should we just keep treating it until it goes away? We have a filter, which I think does have carbon, but didn't remove it when we treated it. Neither of the other 2 female mollies have it, just the one male.

Think that's all the advice I need for now!

Thanks for looking, hope someone can help!

Im not an expert on mollies, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if she is pregnant. Your tank is well planted so I would leave her where she is, there is plenty of places for the fry to hide and putting her in a breeding trap may cause her to abort.

When treating a tank with a med, you MUST remove the carbon, as this will remove it.

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your reply. I don't think my molly was pregnant, as when I got up this morning she was dead.

I was going to leave her in the tank, as like you said, there are plenty of places for them to hide. My little boy has counted 10 guppy babies this morning, which have all hidden away.

At least we have some new guppy babies to look forward to. I was all excited that we might have molly babies. Saying that, I wasn't sure that she was pregnant, as there was no black bit on her at all. My other female does have a black spot, but her belly doesn't look swollen at all. We'll just have to wait and see, eh?

Thanks again.
