Hi there!

I just wanted to stop in and say hi there and that I love the site. I have been looking for a great active site with loads of information for some time now and I think I found it here!

I am new to fish keeping and love reading loads of information about the hobby.

A little background about me.
I started fish keeping when my mother gave me a male betta that she didn't want about 4 years ago. I kept him in a smallish fish bowl until I found the maintenance for something that small to be a pain. He lived for quite a while surprisingly!

I researched then and fell in love with fish keeping! I harassed my husband to get a larger aquarium for quite a while until we got a 16g bow front.
I did the newbie thing and got the clown puke gravel and the hideous decorations. I THOUGHT I loved it until I took a gander at the planted tank. I had my fake aquarium for about 2 years and it always got disgusting with black gross looking algae even with normal water changes.

I said enough is enough. I revamped my entire setup with a good substrate (I think), real live plants, and more light. I have had my planted aquarium for only about 4 months now and I love it. I hope to one day get a giant (to me) aquarium when we move to a house. Have a big shoal of just a few types of fish and try my hand at breeding them.

I am now a lifetime fish hobbyist and hope to get some direction as to where and how to go about doing this awesome hobby. I am having trouble with my plants right now and hope to get some help and pointers about everything under the fishkeepers sun. I am located in the Portland OR area.

Looking forward to all the great info here!

I must say I am not completely happy with it, plants need to be repositioned and it needs to be cleaned, and some of the plants are in bad shape to say the least. This is just my first go. :)
