Hi, I've been keeping fish for a while now and have decided to get a betta to live with some amano shrimp. So, couple of question-

1) Will this combination work? (30l tank)
2) Where can I get a really nice betta in Bury, Lancs (or very nearby - don't want mail order) I'd like a young homebred fish if possible.

Sure I'll be back with more questions!

it 'should' work, i currently keep a PK in a 21l with amano shrimp, he gets on fine and just ignores the shrimp, although some will eat them

Yeah Shrimp should be ok depending on your fish some attack eat shrimp others dont care about them. I can understand you wanting to buy from a local fish store some have really nice stock but they are usually older fish. It will be hard to find a young fish at a LFS

Know of anyone in my area breeding them?

Im not sure of anyone in your area from here. I have some and I post but if you would rather not have them posted then Id wait and see if anyone replies who is near you.
Posting really isnt bad if you do it correctly most breeder post recorded next day with a heat pack, but it is all down to personal choice! Im afraid the other breeders I know of are in devon or cornwall areas (Netty and Modaz)

Good luck with your search!

Just want to share my experience..

I put shrimp in with my betta a few years ago and everything seemed fine at first, for a week or two, he barely even noticed the shrimp and the shrimp minded its own business. Then I woke up one morning to see that my betta had tried to eat the shrimp - VERY ambitiously, he got more than half of it in his mouth, I barely know how... he couldn't swallow the rest of it, and we couldn't get the shrimp out of his mouth, and he died....

I don't know if this usually happens, but it happened to me, so just a warning... shrimp needs to be either big enough that he can't eat it, or small enough that if he does eat it, he won't choke to death on it. Wrong size and he tries to eat it and chokes.

My experience.

None of our babies are ready to go yet but I can vouch for Wilson's babies. They are gorgeous and 100% healthy well raised Bettas :good: I wouldn't worry about having them posted overnight considering they are in transit to get to pet shops for more than 3 days. We've sent out in excess of 50 fish in the last 6 months and had only one DOA.
