Hi all,
I've just registered to this forum because I've heard its one of the best around. I've purchased my very first aquarium about 3 weeks ago and I am really excited. I have a 105L tank and right now I have 3 bristle nose catfish, 2 algae eaters and 5 platys. I think one of my platys is pregnant and I'm really excited!!
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums platy83! If you need any platy help, go on over to the common livebearers section. I own 4 different colours of platy myself and have a good colony of fry going. Just make sure you have a plan for the fry or it can get overwelming with 30+ fry being born every month per female.

Hi Laura! Thankyou for writing!
I actually have a question about one of my platys. I hope you can help me. I already posted but still no answer.
I have just had my first aquarium for 3 weeks and I am really concerned with one of my platys. I have 5 in all, 4 are velvet wag (1 male and 3 female) and then I have an all yellow female platy (sunset?). Anyway she is really shy, she hides in the bushes most of the day and I only see her eating the plants, not the flake like the rest. What should I do? Should I get other platys that look like her?? Pls help!

Do you have pictures of your tank? Just wondering how much decor you have, the more decor the less shy the fish will be usually. All my platies are pretty independent, they're not really a schooling fish if thats whats you're asking so you don't need to get another one like it. Did you just buy this female? Newcomers take abit to adjust to their settings and will stay out of the spotlight until comfortable.
Maybe the one platy really likes her greens, in that case you can buy veggie flakes or if you have bottom dwellers drop in algae pellet and im sure she'll munch off that too. She could just be a picky eater.

I bought that platy with the other 3 that I have and they didn't have any hard time adjusting. But you're right I do need to get more plants for my tank as my catfish enjoy bitting the stems and now I have less and less. I'll get a pic soon. Thanks for the advice though, I'll try to get veggie flakes. I'm so relifed that I don't need to get any more fish...I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the fry that's comming!
