i was looking at some bettas today thinking how freat theylook but i held off buying one till i found out if a single male can live in a community tank with mollies, guppies, corys, and a plec?

Mollies may be ok, but I would avoid it TBH because of the Betta's aggression and Mollies susceptibleness (if that is a word  ) to fungus and alike in freshwater.

Guppies are a definite no no. The fighter would attack the guppies because of their long flowing fins. See here.

Corys and a plec would probably be ok.

Whilst Bettas can be kept in community tanks if special attention is paid to stocking, they are generally better off in a tank on their own.

BTT

It depends on the individual betta but I would agree that they usually are best left in a tank on there own, they dont play nice with their tankmates.

Last night my betta has finally worked a way of getting snails out of their shells, it was like an episode of CSI Fish Tank this morning with the evidence he left behind.

I never realised that there are so many scottish people on the betta part of this forum.
