Hi Everyone,
I'm 21 and from hertfordshire. I have loved animals since I was young and I am particularly fond of dogs! I did have a rhodesian ridgeback until recently. I stayed with my sister and took baxter (ridgeback) with me and my twin boys (15 months!). My sister has a boxer and they just love each other!!! When it was time to return home I couldn't bare the thought of Baxter being unhappy without his playmate who he'd spent nearly 7 weeks with. He loves dogs as it is but living with one, well he was so happy!! My sister said she was getting another dog anyway for company for billy(boxer) so I decided(after phoning Blue cross etc to get some advice) he could stay there. He did whine at first but now hes truly settled and even though It was so hard for me to do it, I know its been the best decision I made for him. He seems happy and that was the main thing. I miss him loads though :(

Anyway, moving on!!! I have 2 cats, 1 bearded dragon, 4 rats, 2 rabbits and soon i will be setting up my own tropical fish tank and enjoying them too!
I have twin boys also, who are 15months old and one is walking, and the other is getting there, and as you can imagine I am always running round after them! lol
They are having a nap now so I get some "me time" before they wake up! hahaha :)

Well I hope I can give any information when I can, but everyone has their own opinion, so please don't judge any of my answers, anything I write in posts etc, is not guesswork,
its something i've read in fish keeping books, personal knowledge etc, so please don't judge my answers - thinking i've just made it up  , and i apologise if any information i give turns out to be in-accurate. -_-
Its good to know when you have mad mistakes

Thanks to anyone who helps me on my way to deciding whats best for my beautiful aquarium-to-be, I really appreciate any advice given. WHen all is set up and finished I will post pictures!! Maybe do a kind of beginning to end diary haha

Take care all.. :p :p :p

hello and welcome to the forum

baxter sounds lovely, must have been a tough descision but at least you can still see him where he is and he'll be happy

any plans to get another dog?

get yourself down to the household pets section and show us some pics of all your animals :good:

few good links in my sig to help get you started, first thing you need to learn about is cycling

Yes it was tough, but I know he has a good, nice home where people love him. If I didnt stay at my sisters (for family matters) I would still have him now! :( But he must be happier with a doggy friend 24/7! :good: I want another dog, but I'm going to wait until boys are a bit older now. Although as big as ridgebacks are he was no trouble here! ;)
One thing that worries me is that Baxter has turned very protective and they have to muzzle him when out/or when people visit? He has been wary of stangers when he was here but had no problems and was never muzzled, as there was no threat of him biting anyone, He was a real softie!! He still is to people he knows but not to people he doesn't. I cant think of why its happened. Its really puzzled me to think he'd change like that? any ideas anyone???
I will have to try and recover all my photo's from my partners hard drive or take some more later, ill try and find the right place to post it! haha
Sorry, call me stupid but what's your "sig" ?? haha, You can tell I'm very new!
Thanks for the reply. Oh BTW, how did you do about rehoming your Oscar? Had any luck on that perfect home yet?? I bet thats difficult for you to do too :(
I love oscars but their out of my league, I need bigger space for them! I can only hope 1 day.......

Hello and :hi: to the forum!!! :fish: :fish: :fish:

Glad you joined!
Sounds like you have a lot going on for yourself with all those animals and including the kids!!

He may be upset that he got left behind. Sometimes dogs can do that. Even though you left him with another doggy friend, he may have been disapointed in not seeing you, his people family everyday. I have heard of that situation before.

However Good Luck with everything!! :good: :good:

I certainly have! Never a dull moment

Oh god I feel bad now, and heres me thinking I was doing the best for him? Do you think he's missing me to do that then? What would you do if you were in this situation? What could be done to help the situation? A dog trainer maybe? Or something alse? Thanks for the reply -_-

If it's only when he goes out in public, I wouldn't worry about it. I mean he's nice to people he knows, so that is still good. Don't feel bad though, he should adjust to his surroundings, it's just different territory for him to get used to also. New territory equals new experiences. I'm sure he should grow out of it.

Does it seem like he actually wants to bite people or does he just show his teeth? Does he growl when he shows his teeth, if he does?

from what my sister said he will bark and growl, then if whoever it is hasnt backed away he will jump at them, which hes never done(unless a stranger came in he doesn't knew was invited in, he used to greet everyone behind a stairgate at my house, but i made it clear that i let them in, so this was fine)Even outside he was ok. He wouldn't greet anyone until i had done first, then he would come right up and say hello! ;) But now it seems anyone he doesn't know is a serious threat, whether he knows they've been invited in or not! The reason she had him muzzled is because a boy went to touch him when my sister said not to and so baxter grabbed his sleeve, and shook him. I was totally shocked at what she told me he'd done. As even if someone had ignored me and stroked him anyway, he would never attempt to actually bite, it was all bluff. And plus to a child he wouldn't have even snarled!??
I hope he grows out of it

  I've heard that saying before....a zoo! I'd love more if I had my own way and had more time on my hands ;)
My sister is just as bad, if not worse! she has 2 dogs,9 cats,1 bearded dragon,1 parrot as of tomorrow, and shes getting fish too..
We are animal people as you can tell... hehehe.
