hi everyone, I was searching the web for info on tropical fish and came across this forum. I am a total beginner when it comes to tropical fish but I am really interested in investing in some fish, as i have wanted them for years. I thought id come on here first and see what i can learn from this forum and books first before i decide to do this. I wanna know what im dealing with before i chuck myself in the deep end!

Freshwater is simpler than brackish or salt.

basically you need a tank, filter and a heater. Once this is setup add water, add water conditioners or get mature tank water and/or filter squeezings to help the aging/cycling process. Add your live plants and/or wood/stones etc (stones need to be inert or tank safe)

www.java-plants.co.uk are good for plants.

Once you get to the stage having a cycled tank with water at the correct temp etc.....

you are then at a point to start looking at fish (roughly about 2-3 weeks depending on tank size)

Once the tank is full you are looking at 25% water changes weekly or bi weekly, water tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH. Daily fish checks looking for disease and general well being and on top of that general plant maintenance.
