Hi Guys - New Member... Quick Question...

Hi Fish Forums...!!

New member here, so ''hello guys and girls...!!''

As well as being a new member I am pretty new to keeping fish and stuff had my tank for a couple of months now, so woo hoo!!

I do have a quick fish question for you tho which I am hoping you might advise me with...

I have a few fish in my tank at the moment, 3 of them being 1 siamesse fighter fish and 2 killfish. ''Sid'' The Siamesse fighter was ok to start but for the last few days, I have started to notice that ''Sid'' is puffung up at the 2 killifish whenever they are close to each other. The 2 killifish are normally too quick for him to chase, but I cannot work out why he has a problem with them...

Maybe its the killifish's colour / markings, im not too sure, just getting a bit worried about it, should I be concerned? Is there anything I could do to stop it?

The killifish look like this -

and the Siamesse fighter is plain red.

I dont really know much about fighters but i thought they were best kept alone?
Im sure someone will give you an expanded answer

Hi badbadger, thanks for the reply... I believe you cannot keep 2 Siamesse in the same tank at the same time - thanks for the welcome!

Hi and welcome
Siamese fighters (bettas) can sometimes work with other fish but each one is different. I believe killifish are highly agressive and territorial themselves? Do they both look like the link? If so, they may be both males which I don't think is advised. Along with their bright colours, this probably means they aren't a great choice for betta tankmates.
Anyway, something's obviously kicking off in your tank and it would be best to move the betta asap as he will come off worst if there is any fighting.

looking at the picture id say because the fighter see's the killi as a threat, there well known for it mate, have you taken a look over in the betta section?? good idea to will give you alot of infomation and help. you can keep bettas with other fish but! you have to have a betta that is calm in nature....as they are all different but it sounds to me you have a fiesty little fellow, prob best to move the killis out of the tank and leave mr betta on his own

hi ellena - thanks for the info, no, one is female and one is male, the female one is more orange/gold with no red markings on her and the male looks like the one in the picture. they mainly keep themselves to themselves, if anything, its the betta that is starting the threat, not the killi's

hi razer121 - thanks for the info, new to the site, so will take a look at the different sections... i have a number of different species in my tank, including mollys, danios, gourami's, catfish and neon tetras. the killifish keep themselves to themselves, its the betta which is starting it... his name is 'Sid' - must take after 'Sid Vicious' from the 'Sex Pistols' ay..!!
