Hello everyone,
Just thought i'd say hello after stumbling across this site on google. My husband and I have just bought OUR first tropical fish tank (although he's had numerous fish as a child). Its 180litres, and we have sand and black gravel. We've planted 16 plants, added a crashed plane ornament so there's plenty of hiding places and a large bit of bogwood - and so far it looks fantastic. We treated the water to de-chlorinate it.
We didn't know about fishless cycling so haven't done that, but added 3 black mollies. We've tested our water for ph, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and will keep monitoring it to see what happens. Then fingers crossed all being well we'll slowly introduce more fish one or 2 at a time over a period of a few weeks - that sound ok?!
We've got an external Fluval 205 filter and a Fluval 4Plus inside - is that too much? The water looks nice and clear and we've got a decent amount of water movement. We've taken the carbon out of the internal filter and just got the polyester (is it?!) in there.
We have 2 x 30watt flourescent tubes in the tank - is that enough for the plants? Do we need to add CO2 do you think? We added a bit of liquid plant fertiliser too.
Do we sound like we're on the right track?! Any suggestions welcomed.
We were thinking about adding a couple of zebra loaches, killifish and some rummy nose tetras - would they be ok all togther in this size tank?
