Hi guy's, we are new to this site but have been keeping fish for a couple years now and loving it. I currently have 2 tanks, one is 60litre's and the other is 130litre's. In the 60L tank I have
4 x black phantom tetra's
1x zebra angel
1 x baby fire eel (only approx 3 inch long at the mo)
and in the larger 130L tank I have
1 x Zebra angel
1 x Pearl Gourami
4 x Clown loach
1 x fire eel (approx 12" long)
My fire eel used to come up and feed from both of our hands but he has stopped this over the last couple months. I think he may be tight for room and feel a little stuck if you like, he is a softy feely. The tank looks empty until you feed them then all the loaches come out, cool looking fish but the eel is our faveroute.
I feel both tanks are a little on the small side now as the fish are growing so I have just ordered a 6.5'long x 1.5'wide x 2.3'foot high, 630L aquarium which should arrive tomorrow, it comes with a fluval FX5 external filter and 3 x 300w heaters. I was thinking of adding a 1500l/h powerhead and a couple air stones or similar. We already have plans on what we want to put in there and the list so far is
All the fish in the 130L tank (plus the angel from the 60L tank)
1 x Black Ghost Knife fish (had one in the past and would love another)
1 x Red tailed Black Shark
1 x gold nugget pleco
Total of 3 Pearl Gourami's
3 x Indian Gourami's
and approx 8-12 clown killifish.
What do you guy's think, will the tank be ok to take this lot?
The other thing I'm torn between is the substrate, I would love to use sand because my eel, the loaches and all the other bottom dwelling fish will love it but I have read you cant have a bed deeper than 1.5" due to danger of toxic gas build up. I would love a nice thick bed so my eel can burry himself deep enough (it's his faveroute thing to do) so small gravel then appeals. I need to make a decision as the tank comes tomorrow. Anyway, thats our intro, this seems like a good place to be and full of good info and we are finding it usefull already. Thanks guy's.
oh, any help on the substrate would be a big help
Chris.
