Back in the land before time, when I was a boy, you used to be able to get what they called Simpson Hi-Fin Swordtails, beautiful fish with long flowing dorsals. You can still read about them, but I haven't personally seen one in years, always have them on my mental list of fish that I am going to grab up if I ever run across them again. Anyway, I was in my LFS the other day and found a tank of Hi-Fin blue variatus platies. These are the first hi-fin anything that I have seen in a good many years, and they are quite beautiful fish. I bought 6 of them, 2 males, 4 females, so far everyone healthy and happy. I started to do a search on the web, the only thing I was able to find were hi fin blacks, marigolds, sunsets, and red wags. There was mention of a magazine article detailing one man's search for the elusive hi-fin blue variatus, but it was an older issue of a magazine I don't subscribe to, so no more info. Is anyone here familiar with this fish? Or ever seen them in shops in your area? Are they rare? Should I go back to the shop and buy the rest of them?
