Hi everyone

Thanks everyone. Yes, we bought the tank through pets at home and were told to wait 1 week before introducing fish. We've got no live plants and apart from a few ornaments, there is nothing else in there. We added tapsafe to the water but nothing else.

Hopefully the water clears up soon. Would you suggest buying a water testing kit?
Honestly mate PAH have done you a huge favour there in letting you know they don’t know anything about fishkeeping. They’re mostly only good for plants, food and equipment.
Do a search for a LFS (local fish store) and even then double check on here everything they tell you.
Have fun.

Hi and welcome

Haven't bought any fish from PAH, since some spotty kid asked about my tank and then questioned my ability to look after 2 ottos. i reply with "So you do your checks, deem i can look after 2 fish in a 4x2x2 tank, but what is to stop me walking out with them fish and just emptying the bag out on the car park??" surprisingly the spotty blank look was enough for me to walk out.

Get your test kit, then this will may checking the tank cycling a lot easier.

Find a LFS , that doesn't want to just sell you fish and send you on your way. You will also find that 2 different LFS may also have 2 opposing views

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new tank.

I would also echo the thoughts of the people that are critical of pets at home. My local one is awful, they use a shared filter system for all of the tanks and often have visually diseased or dead fish on display. I once overheard one of the women that worked there telling a guy that his 18 inch tank was too deep to keep a Betta fish and it would drown.

They are a good place to buy plants as has been mentioned already, they stock tropica plants normally and they are pretty good.
