about 7 years ago i had a a LOT of tropical fish in a 250 litre tank. However, i sold it all off and went to University and since then i've been fishless...now i've graduated and got a job i've bought a new tank and need some advice because i've never set up a tank from new. My last tank was 2nd hand and was all up and running.

Now, the tank i have it a Biube 35 Litre (i can hear the groans already!) and the reason i've gone for one of these is because i really didn't want a large tank with a lot of fish. But whats the best deal in setting it up?! I had fish for 3 years before, but being young (14-17) i never bothered with all this water testing and stuff..and to be honest i was probably lucky because my fish (including 1 large Catfish) were fine. But now i want to do it properly and really want to avoid a smelly tank.

So i ask those with the knowledge...whats the best way to set up a 35 liter (9 gallons i guess) tank? Should i get it all set up and leave it running for a week? I was thinking of putting 1 live plant in also...would this help to bed the tank in if i needed to run it for a week without fish?

thanks in advance

just been reading the fishless....seems a really well thought out article.

I've been told you can set up the tank slowly with a couple of fish every 20 days...is this possible or wise?
