Hi guys

I have a 160lr Juwel tropical aquarium and have had this some time, I have been changing the white filter pads regularly but was advised against changing the others as often as the manufacturer recommends. Im sure I should now change the others. I am looking for advice on how to do this, should I rinse the new ones in water change water and should they be done gradually.

Would really appreciate some help on this.

Thanks In advance

Hi Emma

I'm from Bristol too :)

There's no need to change any media unless its falling apart...

I gentle squeeze in used tank water from a waterchange will be fine, changing media too much may result in mini cycles on your tank.

Welcome to TFF :good:

Thanks for the reply, will do as you have advised.

It would be great if manufacturers posted the correct info on thier products rather than trying to make more money off of the inexperienced. I wonder how many people never come to these forums and are killing off all that great bacteria and potentially hurting fish because they think they need to replace the filters often!

thank goodness you came to the right place! :good:

Thanks :)

Losing lots of fish and panicking now, have tested the water and all levels are ok :(

I love my tank and fish and its its so upsetting losing them all gradually :(

One more thing...I am finding alot of my snaller younger fish getting into the filter chamber, has anyone else experienced this?

i had to cut my filter off the glass to release two cory babies who were stuck in the back corner! am thinking of getting an external filter but need to do a bit of research first.
